(hkfilmart, Feb 20, 2013) The 99th IMAX screen in China, which is also the 2nd IMAX screen in Guangzhou, was officially launched on 30 January 2013, two weeks after the cinema’s soft opening.
Located at the large-scale underground shopping mall (occupies 140,000 square meters, equivalent to 1.45 million square feet; developed by Hong Kong Lan Kwai Fong Group) of Huacheng Sqaure, Zhujiang New Town, UA Cinema Mall of the World (MoW) boasts a total of 290 seats while all rows have a 1.2-meter space in-between. The IMAX screen measures 12 meters high and 21 meters wide. Tickets range from RMB100 to RMB140 per person. IMAX Corporation specifies that there should only be one IMAX cinema within an area of 3 square kilometers. UA MoW, therefore, will be the sole IMAX house in the heart of Tianhe district.
The first IMAX cinema in Guangzhou is situated at Baiyun New Town (former Baiyun Airport), a newly-developed town far from downtown. UA WoW will have every competitive advantage in the market. According to sources, this IMAX screening hall alone is a RMB60 million project (including construction) financed by UA Cinema.
